Design Curation: Ioanna Tsigeni
Located within a compact 45 sqm footprint, this contemporary studio apartment redefines small-scale urban living through a carefully curated balance of functionality, atmosphere, and spatial fluidity. Designed around the generous verticality of the existing high ceiling, the project transforms the limitations of compact living into an opportunity for architectural layering, creating a sequence of intimate yet interconnected spaces that feel both open and protected. Soft curtain dividers were introduced as flexible architectural elements, allowing the interior to shift between privacy and openness while reinforcing a sense of cocooning and warmth throughout the residence. Rather than relying on rigid partitions, the design embraces transparency, texture, and lightness, creating a more fluid domestic experience suited to contemporary city living. A rich palette of natural wood, deep-toned custom cabinetry, soft textiles, and sculptural furniture pieces introduces depth and sophistication, while integrated storage solutions maximize functionality without compromising the minimalist aesthetic. Carefully composed lighting and curated material contrasts elevate the apartment beyond conventional studio living, creating a refined architectural atmosphere inspired by boutique hospitality and contemporary Mediterranean interiors. This high-end studio renovation reflects a modern approach to compact luxury living in Heraklion, Crete, where intelligent spatial planning and atmospheric design become the foundation of everyday comfort.
