Hospitality Project | Heraklion, Crete | Greece.
Interior Architecture and Project Management: Ioanna Tsigeni
Perched above an existing hospitality structure in Crete, this rooftop suite lobby was conceived as an immersive architectural experience that reconnects contemporary luxury with the cultural essence, material authenticity, and atmospheric richness of the island. Designed as the threshold to an elevated hospitality experience, the space embraces a palette of deeply natural materials — warm wood textures, handcrafted woven surfaces, tactile stone finishes, and soft ambient lighting — creating an environment that feels intimate, grounding, and emotionally resonant. Inspired by the layered identity of Cretan heritage, craftsmanship, and Mediterranean living, the interior architecture balances refined contemporary aesthetics with a sense of timeless ritual and place-making. Sculptural furniture, organic forms, and filtered natural light generate a cocooning spatial atmosphere, while custom-made partitions reinterpret traditional weaving techniques through a modern architectural lens, offering privacy, texture, and visual depth throughout the suite lobby. More than a transitional hospitality space, the project was envisioned as an emotional introduction to the experience of living within the hotel — a sanctuary designed to slow the rhythm of everyday life and immerse guests within the warmth, serenity, and cultural memory of Crete. Through carefully curated materiality, atmospheric lighting, and sensory spatial design, the rooftop intervention transforms the identity of the existing hotel into a high-end destination rooted in contemporary Mediterranean luxury and authentic Cretan storytelling.
